With 2024 knocking at the door, a family craft night is the best way to celebrate ringing in the New Year by making a new vision board filled with the goals and intentions you would like to set for the year to come. My husband James & I have been doing this on New Year’s Eve the last few years and it is my favorite way to start my new year with all my goals written down with a clear vision of what I want to make happen in my life. Simply put, a vision board is a visual representation of what you want your life and future to look like.
If you don’t like to go out to celebrate New Year’s Eve and would rather stay home for a quiet night of family time, gathering for a family crafting activity is the perfect way to celebrate NYE! If you have children, creating a family vision board together is a great visual way to show how setting goals is so important to achieving success in life. Maybe your child wants to get an ‘A’ in a class they have been working hard in or they want to learn a new sport or score a certain number of goals in the current sport they play…adding all of these to a vision board during a family craft night is fun for everyone.
Whether you want to focus your vision board on personal, professional, or spiritual goals, creating a vision board is a great way to put on paper what you want to put into action. Writing down your goals makes implementing them and putting them into action that much easier. While my husband and I create our vision board together, this is a great way to get the whole family involved for family time and makes the perfect activity for family craft night. Add a location to your vision board that you would like to visit for your next family vacation. Or if you’re saving up for a trip to Disneyland, cut out pictures of Mickey Mouse, it’s as simple as that.
Manifesting
Manifesting is something that I have done for years, and manifesting is so much more than just wishing and hoping for something. It’s not some form of magic that makes your goals a reality. Setting an intention, believe it is possible and living as if it will happen is the most important part to take the active steps to make your goals a reality.
A great example that people always bring up is how I manifested my husband…when I remodeled my home, I did so in a way that would make space for another person in my life, we installed double sinks in the master bathroom so that one day, my future husband could use it. I wrote down all the qualities that I wanted in a future husband and most importantly, I lived knowing that when the time was right, my future husband would come into my life…and he did, right on time.
This post is all about having a family craft night for New Year’s Eve with Vision Boards.
How To Make A Vision Board
Items Needed:
- Poster Board, Foam Board or Push Pin/Bulletin Board
- Glue Stick or Push Pins
- Scissors
- Magazines
Goals
Before you start taking your scissors to your magazines, think about what you want your vision board to look like when you’re finished with it. What are your goals for the upcoming year? Do you have any 5 or 10 year goals?
Topics to Include: Personal, Personal Development, Professional, Career, Family, Travel, Health, Spiritual
Updates
Like all plans, goals can and will change, that is why I always suggest updating your vision boards, sometimes I do this monthly or quarterly, or as needed. Don’t be afraid to make updates! Your vision board is yours, so don’t be worried if you don’t see your goals happen overnight but work on the steps to make your goal a reality.
Gratitude Journal
Two years ago, I started implementing my gratitude journal, where I would remove things from my vision boards after they came into fruition and placed them into my gratitude journal. I write down the date as well, if that makes sense with your goal-closing on a house, reaching a goal, going on a trip, etc.
Q&A
I took questions on my Instagram stories the other day and received so many questions, here are some answers to the most commonly asked:
Q: What do I do if I have the same goals year after year and my goals look the same?
A: Try and breaking down the steps towards the goals you have, for an example, do you have your dream home on your vision board? What is needed to get that home? A certain dollar amount? A down payment? Etc. Add those smaller or shorter-term goals first.
Q: How do you begin and narrow down the process to where it feels tangible?
A: Start with what is goals that are most important to you first and think about the steps that need to be taken to get there first. While having big goals and dreams are amazing and you want to add them, sometimes we need to add things we can check off the list so we feel we’re actually making progress towards these goals.
Want to lose 20lbs? Add 5lbs to your board first. Want to save $10,000? Save $1,000 first. Want to apply your dream job? Write down what that looks for you, exactly how you want it-company, title, salary, location, etc. This helps to get focused and make things more tangible and allows you to celebrate your wins sooner and more often.
Q: Where do you get your pictures for your vision board from?
A: I love to buy magazines to cut out pictures and quotes, but I will also print more specific images from the internet.
Q: How detailed does it need to be?
A: I think being as detailed as possible helps to achieve goals, but there have been many times where I have used images for more overall goals.
Q: Can you add things throughout the year?
A: Absolutely! I am constantly adding to and fine tuning my board as the year goes on.
