Halloween came and went so fast, and while so many are already focusing on Christmas, I feel like Thanksgiving needs a little love and what better way to get excited for the holiday than a fun family craft everyone can do together! I’m going to share exactly how I make these beautiful succulent pumpkins that look beautiful at your front door or on your dining room table! They are so easy to make and perfect for a family crafting night in!
If you still have your pumpkins laying around from Halloween, this is the perfect way to reuse them! If your pumpkins didn’t make it past Halloween night, many grocery stores or your local nursey still have them available. Using the fairytale pumpkins that are pale orange, white or green make for the perfect base.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Pumpkin
- Glue Gun & clear glue sticks
- Moss-Sphagnum or Spanish Moss look beautiful. This year we even used moss that had different colors!
- Variety of mini succulents 8-12 mini potted succulents, even better i7f the trims are in your own yard! Get tall ones, different colors, ones that dangle, etc.
HOW TO DO IT:
- Treat your pumpkin. I clean the pumpkin with water and a small amount of bleach to kill all the bacteria and pat dry. Doing this will ensure your pumpkin will last for months and well into the new year.
- Using your glue gun, apply hot glue to the top of the pumpkin for your moss. Press moss gently into the hot glue and be careful not to burn yourself. Add enough moss to cover most of the circumference of the pumpkin so it still peeks from under the succulents.
- Attach succulents to the moss with hot glue, applying to the stem of the succulents. This does not kill the succulent, so no need to worry. I like to start from the middle with the tallest succulents and work my way out. Saving the dangly ones to drip down the sides, it looks beautiful! Fill in the succulents as needed until you’re finished. That’s it!
Don’t forget to water your beautiful succulent and allow it to get light. Water it every day with a spray bottle make it easy and ensure it gets the job done.
Please let me know if you make this family craft for Thanksgiving! It’s a great way to make family time a little more festive for the holidays.
