Now that the new year has just started and conversations naturally turn toward hopes, goals, and fresh starts, vision board night has become one of my favorite traditions to do at home.
Vision boards are reflective, creative, and surprisingly simple. Even my young kids love being part of it, especially when it comes to clipping pictures and gluing them onto the board.
Unlike many end-of-year activities that can feel rushed or overplanned, vision board night is all about intention rather than perfection. Honestly, I think the best vision boards are the slightly random ones. Everyone gets a chance to slow down, think about what they want more of in the coming year, and put those ideas down visually in a relaxed, pressure-free way. It’s much less about crafting skills and much more about connection.
Make It A Tradition
You can do this solo as a night of reflection, with your family like I have done the past few years, or with your friends for a fun girls and craft night, it really works in any setting. If you’re looking for a yummy dinner to pair it with, I have a few recipes like my Chicken Pot Pie Orzo or my Buffalo Chicken Dip as an appetizer that would be a great fit.
One of the reasons this tradition works so well is that it doesn’t take much effort, as long as you plan ahead. Since I love doing this every year, I keep magazines and newspapers throughout the year instead of tossing them out. By the time December rolls around, I have a great collection of images, words, and ideas ready to go. Sitting down and flipping through them feels purposeful and fun, almost like revisiting little moments that helped shape the year.
What You'll Need
It also makes the night incredibly budget-friendly. You don’t need fancy supplies, just scissors, glue, poster board, and your saved clippings. It’s a great alternative to more elaborate craft nights, especially during an already busy season. Add a little music, some snacks, and easy conversation, and it instantly feels cozy and memorable without feeling like work.
Supplies List
- Scissors
- Glue
- Poster board
- Magazines and newspapers
- Markers or pens
I especially love this as a family tradition because it opens the door to meaningful conversations about the year ahead. We end up talking about everything, from trips we’d love to take and school activities to bigger plans like home projects or renovations.
With 2026 just getting started, now is the perfect time to make your vision boards. Once they’re finished, I like keeping them somewhere I’ll see them often as a reminder of what we’re working toward. The pantry or my closet are my go-to spots, out of the way, but still part of my everyday routine.
