Winter Safety 101: Protecting Your Newborn From the Cold

While Winter brings so many fun and joyous festivities, it also brings cold temperatures that can be challenging for everyone, especially newborns, so I wanted to share my winter baby essentials checklist so you can keep your baby cozy and safe. As a parent, ensuring the safety and well-being of your little one during the winter months is of so important. In this post, I’m going to provide you with the ultimate newborn baby essentials for winter to keep your newborn snug and secure.

Newborns are particularly vulnerable to the cold, as they have not yet developed the ability to regulate their body temperature effectively. And exposure to extreme cold can lead to health issues, making it crucial for parents to take extra precautions during winter. You may even have many of these items from your newborn baby essentials checklist.

Here are my winter essentials for babies:

Dressing Baby in Layers

Invest in cozy, layered clothing for your baby. Dress your newborn in onesies, footed pajamas, and soft hats to keep them warm. Use mittens and booties to protect their tiny hands and feet from the cold. Dressing your baby in layers allows you to be able to take off a layer if it warms up or add a layer or two when the temps drop. Adding a coat or bunting snow suit can protect your newborn from the winter elements with its water-repellent outer layer and lined and filled interior.

When to Take Off the Jacket

While it is so important to bundle your little one in layers to keep them warm, it is most important that when you are strapping your newborn into their car seat for a drive that you REMOVE their thick and warm jackets. Why do you ask? Isn’t keeping them warm the point?

Children should never wear thick and puffy jackets while strapped into their car seats because that will prevent the car seat from being fastened properly and a child could slip out of their car seat in an accident. Instead, remove their jacket before placing your child in their car seat and then cover your child with a blanket after they have been strapped in properly.

Winter Baby Essentials Checklist: Soft and Cozy Blanket

Always bring a blanket with you wherever you and your newborn go, as temps can drop in an instant and you never know when a blanket is needed. This super soft baby blanket by Little Giraffe is a favorite of my children with its faux fur softness and satin border, and it makes the perfect baby gift for a friend or family member!

Winter Stroller Set

Almost like a warm, wearable hug so you and your baby can go about your day. Made from Merino wool and TENCEL, it lines the inside of the muff and mittens for optimal warmth, with its water-repellent exterior.

Moisturizing Products

Use baby-friendly moisturizers to keep your newborn’s skin hydrated and protected, we love using Tubby Todd’s All Over Ointment.  It is pediatrician and dermatologist tested and safe for sensitive skin. Gentle enough for newborns but works for children of all ages. It is a rich, creamy ointment made from plant-based ingredients like colloidal oatmeal, jojoba esters and camellia leaf extract to naturally moisturize and soothe sensitive skin.

Indoor Humidifier

The BreatheFrida humidifier not only brings moisture back to baby’s room, it is also equipped with an essential oil diffuser and a range of nightlight colors. The baby humidifier use water to provide a hydrating mist for 12 hour of run time that covers up to 320 square feet. This humidifier is definitely something to add to your newborn baby essentials for winter.

Warm Nursery

Dress them how you would dress yourself at nighttime for a comfortable night’s sleep. Sometimes that means adding a short-sleeved onesie under their footed pajamas.

Another great option is to use a sleep sack that is made with the softest Australian merino wool and organic cotton like these Woolino Ultimate Baby Sleeping Bags. They are designed to give babies the best night’s sleep possible. Incredibly comfortable, they will keep your little one at the perfect body temperature – whatever the season. And with their ingenious one-size-fits-all design, it will fit your baby for 2 years – saving the need to purchase multiple sleep sacks as your child grows. My dad was the American dream. He came to this co My dad was the American dream.

He came to this country from Egypt and built a life he could be proud of, becoming a successful business owner who owned three neighborhood bars. But to him, they were more than just bars. They were always home to familiar faces and gave people a place to go, especially on the holidays, when he would make sure everyone had a meal and a place to be.

He loved to go deep sea fishing, play video games at his bar, wear all white, put way too much sugar in his tea, smoke his Marlboro Lights, drink a Heineken, wear his 14k gold and always had wads of cash in his pockets.

But nothing put a bigger smile on his face than his grandchildren.

Losing both of my parents in six months is something I still can’t wrap my head around. It feels unimaginable. There are moments I don’t know how to process it all, or how life can possibly look the same without either of them.

But I find comfort in knowing that my dad is in heaven, and I know my mom was there to welcome him with open arms 🙏

I will miss you forever, Daddy. I love you ♥️

My beautiful mom went to heaven. She passed peacef My beautiful mom went to heaven. She passed peacefully and is no longer fighting a battle she has fought for so long.

Nothing in this world prepares you for the heartbreak of losing your mom. My mom was everything to me, and I know how incredibly lucky I have been all these years to have had her as my mother. She taught me how to work hard, to be independent, strong, and assertive.

She was a powerhouse. Tough and honest, but always fair. Her bark bigger than her bite. But let me tell you about the German stubbornness…all the way to the end. I was always so proud you were my mom. A mom who did everything, for everyone. But her favorite role was becoming Omi to my two littles.

It’s up to us to keep our loved ones’ memories alive. If you knew my mom, please comment your favorite memory of her. Some of the only laughs I’ve had recently have come from friends sharing their favorite moments with her over the years.

I promise to continue her legacy. To say her name. To teach my children what an incredible woman their Omi was and how deeply she loved them. While her proudest accomplishment was being a selfless mother to her two children, mine was being able to care for her over the last 11 years, the way she cared for me my entire life. I will forever cherish the moments we walked through the hard together.

Be free, Mom. You are out of pain now. No more suffering. Watch over us and send me the signs, I will look for you in everything we do and know you are shining down on us forever.

I love you. In Gottes Namen 🙏♥️
