Mommy Self-Care: Why It’s Important and How to Prioritize It

Vision board night, Craft nights

If I told you vision board night is on the calendar for mommy self-care, what would you think? Being a mom is one of the most rewarding roles, but it can also be incredibly demanding. Amidst the daily hustle of taking care of children, managing household chores, and possibly juggling a career, self-care often takes a backseat.

However, prioritizing self-care is essential not only for your well-being but also for being the best mom you can be. One of the most enjoyable and fulfilling ways to incorporate self-care into your routine is through creative activities like craft nights.

Why Mommy Self-Care is Crucial

Self-care is about taking the time to nurture yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally. For moms, this is particularly important because:

  1. Preventing Burnout: Constant caregiving without breaks can lead to burnout, leaving you feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. Self-care activities help recharge your batteries.
  2. Setting a Positive Example: Children learn by observing their parents. By prioritizing self-care, you teach your kids the importance of taking care of themselves.
  3. Improving Mental Health: Regular self-care practices can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, leading to a happier and more balanced life.
  4. Enhancing Relationships: Taking time for yourself can improve your relationships with your partner and children, as you’ll be more patient and present.

Prioritize Self-Care with a Vision Board Night

A vision board night is a creative and inspiring way to focus on your goals and dreams. Here’s how you can organize one:

  1. Gather Materials: You’ll need a board (corkboard, poster board, or even a large piece of paper), magazines, scissors, glue, and markers.
  2. Set the Mood: Create a relaxing atmosphere with some soothing music, candles, and maybe even a glass of wine.
  3. Reflect on Your Goals: Think about what you want to achieve in different areas of your life—personal growth, family, career, health, and hobbies.
  4. Create Your Vision Board: Cut out images and words from magazines that represent your goals and aspirations. Arrange them on your board and glue them down.
  5. Share and Reflect: If you’re doing this with friends, take turns sharing your vision boards. This can be a motivating and bonding experience.

Craft Nights

Craft nights are another excellent way to unwind and express your creativity. Here’s how you can incorporate them into your self-care routine:

  1. Choose a Craft: Pick a craft that you enjoy or want to learn, such as knitting, painting, scrapbooking, or DIY home decor.
  2. Schedule Regular Craft Nights: Set aside a specific night each week or month dedicated to crafting. Mark it on your calendar as a non-negotiable appointment with yourself.
  3. Create a Crafting Space: Set up a comfortable and inviting space for your crafting activities. Ensure it’s stocked with all the supplies you need.
  4. Invite Friends or Go Solo: You can make it a social event by inviting friends or enjoy some peaceful alone time. Either way, it’s a great way to de-stress.
  5. Enjoy the Process: Focus on the joy of creating rather than the end result. Crafting can be meditative and therapeutic, allowing you to escape from daily stressors.

Tips for Maintaining a Self-Care Routine

  • Start Small: Begin with small, manageable activities that you can easily fit into your schedule.
  • Be Consistent: Consistency is key. Try to incorporate self-care into your daily or weekly routine.
  • Ask for Help: Don’t hesitate to ask for support from your partner, family, or friends to ensure you get some uninterrupted self-care time.
  • Set Boundaries: Learn to say no to additional responsibilities that can wait. Your well-being should come first.
  • Celebrate Yourself: Acknowledge and celebrate the efforts you make towards self-care. Every little step counts.

Get Started with Your Vision Board Night and Craft Nights

Prioritizing self-care as a mom is not a luxury, but a necessity. By dedicating time to activities like a vision board night and craft nights, you can recharge, stay motivated, and nurture your creativity. Remember, taking care of yourself allows you to take better care of your loved ones. So, go ahead and schedule that vision board night or craft night—you deserve it!

My dad was the American dream. He came to this co My dad was the American dream.

He came to this country from Egypt and built a life he could be proud of, becoming a successful business owner who owned three neighborhood bars. But to him, they were more than just bars. They were always home to familiar faces and gave people a place to go, especially on the holidays, when he would make sure everyone had a meal and a place to be.

He loved to go deep sea fishing, play video games at his bar, wear all white, put way too much sugar in his tea, smoke his Marlboro Lights, drink a Heineken, wear his 14k gold and always had wads of cash in his pockets.

But nothing put a bigger smile on his face than his grandchildren.

Losing both of my parents in six months is something I still can’t wrap my head around. It feels unimaginable. There are moments I don’t know how to process it all, or how life can possibly look the same without either of them.

But I find comfort in knowing that my dad is in heaven, and I know my mom was there to welcome him with open arms 🙏

I will miss you forever, Daddy. I love you ♥️

My beautiful mom went to heaven. She passed peacef My beautiful mom went to heaven. She passed peacefully and is no longer fighting a battle she has fought for so long.

Nothing in this world prepares you for the heartbreak of losing your mom. My mom was everything to me, and I know how incredibly lucky I have been all these years to have had her as my mother. She taught me how to work hard, to be independent, strong, and assertive.

She was a powerhouse. Tough and honest, but always fair. Her bark bigger than her bite. But let me tell you about the German stubbornness…all the way to the end. I was always so proud you were my mom. A mom who did everything, for everyone. But her favorite role was becoming Omi to my two littles.

It’s up to us to keep our loved ones’ memories alive. If you knew my mom, please comment your favorite memory of her. Some of the only laughs I’ve had recently have come from friends sharing their favorite moments with her over the years.

I promise to continue her legacy. To say her name. To teach my children what an incredible woman their Omi was and how deeply she loved them. While her proudest accomplishment was being a selfless mother to her two children, mine was being able to care for her over the last 11 years, the way she cared for me my entire life. I will forever cherish the moments we walked through the hard together.

Be free, Mom. You are out of pain now. No more suffering. Watch over us and send me the signs, I will look for you in everything we do and know you are shining down on us forever.

I love you. In Gottes Namen 🙏♥️
