The holidays are here and if you’re traveling to visit family or friends this season, I have the ultimate family travel tips to help you survive the plane rides or long car trips! We started traveling with a baby when Jules was only 7 weeks old and she had many long flights under her belt before she even turned one! Don’t be scared to travel with your babies, you bring a lot of stuff with you, but it’s a lot easier to travel when they’re younger don’t want jump out of their plane seat and run down the aisle!
We recently took our first trip with both of the babies and I am happy to report, it was a success! While there were some challenges, I feel like we prepared as best as possible, which helped make the process go a lot smoother.
This post is all about family travel tips.
1. Arrive Early!
Get to the airport early! With the craziness of family holiday travel during this time of year, there are just more people, longer lines, tighter security, etc. When traveling with a baby, I highly suggest getting to the airport at least 30 minutes earlier than you would usually. This gives you extra time to get the additional baggage checked, time for extra potty breaks or diaper changes and gate check your stroller or car seat if needed!
2. BabyQuip Baby Equipment Rental Service
If mentioned it before, but BabyQuip will make your family holiday travel go so much smoother! BabyQuip is the #1 baby equipment rental service that offers thousands of baby gear items for rent! They will even come to your hotel, AirBnB or wherever you’re staying and set everything up for you so it is ready for when you arrive! We just used BabyQuip to rent a Snoo for my son during our trip to Tennessee!
3. SlumberPod
Creating a safe and comfortable place for your little one to sleep and take naps is just going to make every day more manageable, which is key when traveling with a baby. For our recent trip to Tennessee, we brought our SlumberPod for my daughter and it is one of my favorite family travel tips. It was awesome! It is a cover for the sleep area that blocks out 90% of light and it was so easy to set up! The SlumberPod is key when you’re sharing a room with the kids, this way you don’t have to keep all the lights off once your child has fallen asleep! It fits over playards, mini cribs or inflatable toddler beds! And there is plenty of ventilation and has a compartment where you can insert a mini fan to help with circulation.
