We all have them. Those items you pull out of the drawer or cabinet, take one look at, and think I really need to replace this, and then promptly forget about the second you put it back. Life gets busy and somehow those little kitchen things keep getting pushed to the bottom of the to-do list. Today I’m rounding up the must-have kitchen items that are long overdue for a refresh. These are the ones you use all the time but probably haven’t thought to restock, until now!
1. Oven Mitts

This is at the top of my must-have kitchen items list for a reason. I have accidentally burned mine from leaving them too close to the stove one too many times — and yet kept using them way longer than I should have. If yours are stained, burned, or barely holding together, it is time. These Soft Silicone Oven Mitts from Crate & Barrel come in a set of two and are such a great upgrade. Silicone means better heat protection and they are so much easier to keep clean.
2. Pot Holders
Right alongside oven mitts on the list of must-have kitchen items you forget to replace, pot holders. You probably have a set sitting in a drawer right now that has seen better days. This set from Target is not only cute but great quality. Sometimes the simplest swap makes your kitchen feel so much more put together.
3. Salt and Pepper Shakers
Some people replace these often and some people have had the same set since they moved into their first apartment. Either way, it’s always a good one to restock on. These are genuinely must-have kitchen items that sit out on your counter every single day, they should look good! I love this refillable set from Crate & Barrel because you can refill them instead of constantly buying new ones. Practical and pretty!
4. Metal Measuring Cups
Over the years I have used both plastic and metal measuring cups, and over the years, they disappear one by one. It happens to everyone. A full set slowly becomes three, then two, then one lonely cup at the back of a drawer. This set from Target is under $15 and they all live on a ring together so they won’t go missing. Genuinely one of the most satisfying must-have kitchen items to replace because you’ll use them constantly.
5. A Good Glass Measuring Cup

You’ve either had the same glass measuring cup for 15 years, tried and true, or your glass one broke at some point and you grabbed a cheap plastic one as a quick fix. If you have been meaning to order a proper replacement, here is your sign. This one from Target is only $6 and I love it. Glass is always better for accuracy and it just feels right in the kitchen. A total must-have kitchen item that often gets overlooked.
6. A New Set of Spatulas
I finally upgraded to a good wooden spatula set and honestly it was one of the best decisions I made for my kitchen. No more worrying about plastic or silicone ones melting when they get too close to the heat. This wooden set is everything, durable, functional, and they look great sitting in a crock on the counter. If your current spatulas have seen better days, this is the upgrade you didn’t know you needed.
