We recently took a family trip to Maui that was unbelievable! We had so much fun and hit all the amazing spots, which is why I wanted to put together a list to share with you. We originally booked the trip for a family wedding but decided to extend our stay and turn it into a vacation so we could really enjoy everything Maui has to offer. We’ve been to Maui before, but honestly, it just gets better every single time. Below is a list of our favorite Maui things to do, from dining to travel hacks, that made this trip so special.
Where to Eat in Maui
Dining is one of the highlights of the trip, and we made sure to revisit some of our favorites while trying new spots too.
Mama’s Fish House
Mama’s Fish House is a top thing when choosing Maui things to do and one of our absolute favorites. The food, the service, the views, everything is perfect. Reservations can be booked up to 18 months in advance (yes, really!). If you can’t snag one, don’t give up, check daily while you’re there, as cancellations happen. Definitely a bucket-list stop for anyone looking for classic Maui things to do.
Merriman's
If you want dinner here, set your alarm. Reservations at Merriman’s open 60 days prior at 6am HST, and they fill up quickly. It’s worth the effort, though, the atmosphere and fresh, local flavors are unforgettable.
The Gazebo
Hands down our favorite breakfast spot is The Gazebo! Fair warning, the line can be 45 minutes to 2 hours, but here’s my hack: go on your first morning when you’re already up early from the time change. If you get there before they open at 7:30am, you’ll beat the rush. Don’t miss the banana mac nut pancakes and definitely order the fried rice to-go for later. A delicious way to start your list of Maui things to do.
Star Noodle
This Lahaina favorite has reopened in a new Front Street location after the fires. Star Noodle is a modern, vibrant, and absolutely worth booking a reservation for. Their shared plates and noodles are fresh and flavorful, a good option for kids and adults.
Honu
We tried Honu for the first time on this trip and absolutely loved it! It’s right on the water on Front Street, and their chef used to be with Lahaina Grill, so you know the food is excellent.
Travel Tips for Maui
- Target Stop: Before we even leave LAX, I place a Target order for pick-up when we land. The store is just 5 minutes from the airport, and I stock up on essentials like snacks, sunscreen, diapers, and waters. That way, we’re set before heading to the hotel.
- Early Mornings Are Your Friend: Jet lag works in your favor. Plan big outings in the morning, and you’ll beat the heat, the crowds, and sometimes even the price.
- Downtime is Key: With kids, not every day has to be packed with activities. Build in plenty of pool or beach time so you can enjoy all the amazing views Maui has to offer.
Maui is one of our favorite places to go, no matter how many times I’ve been, it’s so relaxing and the views just can’t be beat! From amazing food to waterfall adventures to simply grabbing a shaved ice by the beach, there are endless Maui things to do with kids.
