Summer Activity Essentials for Toddlers: Your Go-To Guide for Easy, Fun Days

Summer activity essentials for toddlers

When summer rolls around, keeping toddlers entertained can quickly feel like a full-time job. Between the heat, changing routines, and endless energy, having the right summer activity essentials for toddlers can make all the difference.

After going through a few summers with little ones, I’ve learned that a little preparation goes a long way. The right mix of activities keeps kids engaged, helps avoid meltdowns, and makes your days feel a lot more manageable. If you’re planning ahead, this guide covers the must-have summer activity essentials for toddlers to keep things simple, fun, and stress-free all season long.

1. Outdoor Water Play Must-Haves

Nothing keeps toddlers happy in the summer like water play. It’s one of the easiest and most effective summer activity essentials for toddlers because it keeps them cool while burning energy.

We love using a small splash pad or kiddie pool in the backyard. On extra hot days, water play is usually the activity that saves the afternoon, especially as we live in California. This inflatable splash pad from Walmart is under $30 and is a blast for kids!

2. Sun Protection Essentials

Summer activity essentials for toddlersSpending more time outside means sun protection is a must. These summer activity essentials for toddlers help keep your little ones safe while they play.

I always keep sunscreen, hats, and lightweight clothing on hand. Applying sunscreen before heading outside and reapplying throughout the day has become part of our routine. A good hat also makes a big difference, especially during park days or walks. I love these hats from Target that are under $15.

3. Snacks and Hydration

Summer activity essentials for toddlersToddlers get hungry fast, especially when they’re active. Having snacks ready is one of the most important summer activity essentials for toddlers to avoid unnecessary meltdowns.

I like to pack easy, mess-free snacks along with a spill-proof water bottle or cup. Fresh fruit, crackers, and pre-packed snack containers make it easy to grab and go, whether we’re in the backyard or heading to the park. These Bento Boxes from Amazon come in a pack of 5 and each one has 4 storage compartments. I also have lots of options for reusable water bottles and opt for cheap ones from Target like this one since the kids tend to lose track of them.

4. Simple Entertainment Options

Summer activity essentials for toddlersYou don’t need anything complicated to keep toddlers busy. A few simple items go a long way when it comes to summer activity essentials for toddlers.

We rotate between bubbles, sidewalk chalk, balls, and a few favorite toys. This keeps things feeling “new” without constantly buying more. My kids are just at the age where they are going to start playing with chalk so I ordered this 24 pack from Walmart for $3.48.

5. On-the-Go Picnic Gear

Picnics are one of my favorite low-effort ways to make a regular day feel a little more special. They’re such an easy way to spruce up a meal and give the kids a change of scenery without needing to plan anything complicated. That’s why I always consider picnic items part of our go-to summer activity essentials for toddlers.

Having a few simple things ready makes it easy to head outside for lunch, snacks, or even dinner. I like to keep a picnic blanket, easy-to-carry food containers, and a small bag with utensils on hand so we can grab everything quickly. This picnic blanket is $20 and washable!

Summer with toddlers doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. When you have the right summer activity essentials for toddlers, your days become easier, more fun, and a lot less stressful. With a little preparation and a flexible routine, you can create simple, memorable moments all summer long.

Summertime with kids is an adventure, some days will be overwhelming but overall, it can be really fun. For other recommendations, visit my blog.

My dad was the American dream. He came to this co My dad was the American dream.

He came to this country from Egypt and built a life he could be proud of, becoming a successful business owner who owned three neighborhood bars. But to him, they were more than just bars. They were always home to familiar faces and gave people a place to go, especially on the holidays, when he would make sure everyone had a meal and a place to be.

He loved to go deep sea fishing, play video games at his bar, wear all white, put way too much sugar in his tea, smoke his Marlboro Lights, drink a Heineken, wear his 14k gold and always had wads of cash in his pockets.

But nothing put a bigger smile on his face than his grandchildren.

Losing both of my parents in six months is something I still can’t wrap my head around. It feels unimaginable. There are moments I don’t know how to process it all, or how life can possibly look the same without either of them.

But I find comfort in knowing that my dad is in heaven, and I know my mom was there to welcome him with open arms 🙏

I will miss you forever, Daddy. I love you ♥️

My beautiful mom went to heaven. She passed peacef My beautiful mom went to heaven. She passed peacefully and is no longer fighting a battle she has fought for so long.

Nothing in this world prepares you for the heartbreak of losing your mom. My mom was everything to me, and I know how incredibly lucky I have been all these years to have had her as my mother. She taught me how to work hard, to be independent, strong, and assertive.

She was a powerhouse. Tough and honest, but always fair. Her bark bigger than her bite. But let me tell you about the German stubbornness…all the way to the end. I was always so proud you were my mom. A mom who did everything, for everyone. But her favorite role was becoming Omi to my two littles.

It’s up to us to keep our loved ones’ memories alive. If you knew my mom, please comment your favorite memory of her. Some of the only laughs I’ve had recently have come from friends sharing their favorite moments with her over the years.

I promise to continue her legacy. To say her name. To teach my children what an incredible woman their Omi was and how deeply she loved them. While her proudest accomplishment was being a selfless mother to her two children, mine was being able to care for her over the last 11 years, the way she cared for me my entire life. I will forever cherish the moments we walked through the hard together.

Be free, Mom. You are out of pain now. No more suffering. Watch over us and send me the signs, I will look for you in everything we do and know you are shining down on us forever.

I love you. In Gottes Namen 🙏♥️
