When it comes to raising a 2 month old baby boy, I can tell you exactly what it’s like-it’s HARD. You can read all the newborn baby books in preparation for motherhood, you can take a newborn class, purchase all the baby essentials, but when it all comes down to it, until you’re in the moment, it’s really hard to fully comprehend what life is like with a newborn baby boy (or girl).
Even though this is my second child, I still have to give myself pep talks every single day-yes, I will sleep again. Yes, my pants will fit again. No, this won’t last forever. Yes, the baby will sleep through the night (maybe not anytime soon, but one day). These pep talks I give myself-which usually occur at 2:30AM while I’m doing a nighttime feed with my 2 month old baby boy. But I too have to remind myself to be gentle with myself, allow myself grace and know that these special times go all too fast and I try and cherish these moments in time with my newborn baby boy.
This post is about the 5 Things That You Should Know About Raising a 2 Month Old Baby Boy.
1. There’s no routine
Soak up all the quiet moments with your newborn baby boy and enjoy every minute. Many baby experts suggest placing the baby in the crib for at least one nap a day, but I took every contact nap I could, because I know the time goes by so fast and I want to soak it all in.
2. They sleep when they want
You’ll always remember the first night your newborn sleeps through the night, you wake up in a panic in the morning
realizing what happened, thinking something is wrong, but you look down and you sweet baby is sleeping away all cozy in their swaddle…Then the next night, they’re up every 2 hours. It happens to everyone, just when you think you’re getting in your groove and then all of a sudden, your 2 month old only wants to take short naps and completely throw you for a loop. Take it one day at a time, it won’t last forever. I promise.
3. Blowouts happen
Just like that really gross baby boy shower games with the diaper and the melted chocolate (gross!), blowouts happen! I have discovered that it really does matter what kind of diapers you use and quality counts, big time! I have tested them all and can truly say, Coterie Diapers a heads and shoulders better than them all.
The Coterie diapers have a 12-hr leak protection to prevent nighttime wakeups, they have 70% more liquid capacity and are 4x faster absorbency for fewer leaks. If you want to give them a try, they are offering 20% off sitewide if you use my code CASSIE for new customers.
4. They might not want to take a bottle
They might not want to take a bottle.
One of my dear friends was having a milestone birthday coming up and it was really important to me that I be there to celebrate her, but 2 months into my breastfeeding journey, my 2 month old baby boy had still not taken a bottle yet, as I had been exclusively breastfeeding. For nearly 3 weeks, we tried all the tricks and tips when it came to bottle feeding-I had someone else feed him, I would leave the room, have the person feeding him hold one of my pieces of clothing, etc. None of them worked. It wasn’t until we started testing out different baby bottles did it finally happen. At the suggestion of someone in our family who works in the NICU, the Philips Avent bottle was a gamechanger. I even got to go to my friend’s birthday party without having to worry! The Dr. Brown’s bottles also worked for us!
5. Mama is tired. Everything can wait.
Is there a pile of dishes in the sink? A load of laundry in the dryer that needs to be folded? Dog hair that needs to be vacuumed up off the floor? Well, you know what? It can all wait. It will all get done eventually and the world will not end if it doesn’t get done this minute. I would rather have a few extra dishes to do once the baby is down at night if that means I can get a few extra cuddles with my baby boy. I promise, you will never regret letting the laundry sit in the dryer too long, but you will always wish you got more cuddles in.
